Introduction to antifreeze and maintenance of valves
2024-09-03After entering winter, the temperature drops rapidly and valves often freeze. If left untreated at this point, the pipeline is prone to malfunction. If it is in some high-risk working conditions, accidents may also occur. Therefore, antifreeze treatment of valves is very important.
Before the temperature drops, a comprehensive insulation work should be carried out on the valve device to prepare for winter.
Prepare the necessary tools: insulation cotton, wire, pliers, art knife, and carry an effective gas alarm in the gas area.
Cut suitable insulation cotton with a utility knife according to the size of the valve. Then use pliers to cut the wire that needs to be tied. When wrapping the insulation cotton, tear it open a little to wrap it around the valve handle and better wrap it around the valve body. After wrapping the insulation cotton, fix it with wire.
If freezing occurs during use and the valve cannot function properly, do not use a wrench or other heavy object to strike the valve. The correct approach is to close the valve and thaw it with steam or hot water before opening it.
If the valve is not used for a long time, the medium inside the pipeline should be completely removed to prevent the pipeline and valve from freezing. Ensuring safe production is the obligation and responsibility that every enterprise should fulfill. The issue of valve antifreeze can be big or small, and we must not cause irreversible situations due to momentary carelessness.
Antifreeze measures need to be tailored to different regions, with significant differences between the north and south. Based on the characteristics of winter and the actual situation of the project, anti freeze measures for winter boilers, pressure vessels, pressure pipelines and their associated valves, and safety relief devices should be developed and implemented in practice.
Intensify daily inspections of areas that are prone to frost cracking. Pay close attention to sudden significant cooling weather, take insulation and response measures in advance, and use insulation materials to strengthen device insulation.
The water inside the equipment must be drained after shutdown or maintenance to prevent freezing and cracking; Pressure vessels that may contain water in the medium should be drained regularly, and the drain valve should be insulated; Check the drainage condition of the steam pipeline, and at the same time, provide insulation for the drainage valves and pipelines; The pouring pipeline of the chemical system needs insulation; Safety valves on boilers, pressure vessels, and pressure pipelines need to be insulated to prevent freezing and failure; Pay attention to keeping warm during water pressure testing, especially the issue of antifreeze for thinner pipelines; When the ambient temperature is low, install level gauges on pressure vessels that are prone to freezing or install steam tracing pipes on pressure pipelines, paying attention to the smooth flow of steam.
It should be noted that if the pipeline is frozen and the valve cannot be opened or closed, it should not be opened or closed hard. Frozen valves should be urgently purchased, and a maintenance team should be arranged to bake the pipeline.
